We decided to go with more of an adventure/story driven game over our initial plan for a strategy/resources based game. This is because we wanted to focus on the story elements of the game, creating an emotional attachment with the journey of the ant colony and to make the players really care about there choices within the game.

With the game mechanics we decided to keep the ant resource, as this would be the challenge aspect of our game trying to make the player constantly conscious of the amount of ants they have left in their colony.

We also thought it would be a good idea to have instant death /lose options in the game where occasionally the wrong choice will lead to instant death. This is another challenging aspect that will make the player think about their choices as their choices will carry more weight to them. This mechanic also adds more replayability to the game with the player having to play the game a couple of time to memorize the right decisions and the decisions that resulted in instant death.
