We’ve been tasked in this module to make an experimental game, this means a game that pushes the boundaries of a game and does something new and creative, push both our abilities and our games. For this process I have come up with a rough idea already, I have also been passionate about making immersive/ atmospheric games which for me means the environment, the level design and the music which makes a complete immersive environment for the player. With this in mind I knew that I also wanted to do something with nature and forests or woodlands as this has been something that I have also wanted to create. So for the game at the moment my idea is to create a virtual nature walk simulator which will have the player travelling through a woodland and as they do so will be drawn to noises made by the native species, when they find the source of the noise a description of the animal that made the noise and some information about the animal e.g. their prey and predators, will be shown. I want to base the woodland off of a real environment so am currently looking at virtual nature walks online to be some references of the environment that I want to recreate, getting this environment to look as much like the environment as possible is my goal (not in terms of graphics but recognition e.g. having appropriate landmarks etc. ).
Tasks:
My first major task will be finding the location that I want to base my game off. With this information I can start looking at the native species that live in this environment, for the purpose of scope I will mainly be looking at birds but with time will also include other animals. Aside of researching the location and animals I will also need to think about the sound and how the player will find each of the species descriptions, my main thoughts for this at the moment was to have a sound that gets louder as the player approaches it and to have some sort of visual cue to tell the player where specifically the noises is coming from i.e. using echo lines
