For this game jam we were given the theme ‘Meme’, which a lot of people didn’t particularly like due to it’s silly nature, though after further discussion with our tutor the term meme actually means someone mimicking someone else’s behavior, thus a lot more serious topics can be approached with the theme e.g. Religion and fads.

Quirky side of theme

Serious side of the theme

I brainstormed some ideas for some time and came up with a list of games that I could potentially make. The main two ideas that I was drawn to where: 1 game where the player would have to match the term/phrase used in an internet meme with its image. The second idea was to create a meme shooter/ maze game where the player would run around a maze getting attacked by memes, taking inspiration from the game Doom [1] and other like arcade shooters. I more inclined to expand on the second idea as I think, one it would be a good way to develop my level designing skills to start off with a simple 3D environment like a maze and secondly due to the fact that it would tie in nicely with my first prototype ‘Plant Defense’ expanding on the arcade style and idea of quick reflexes . I also think this will be really fun to make and I personally would play a game like this.
