This has been my first serious project in Unreal Engine 4 [1]. I decided to use this engine due to its high industry demand and also due to the fact that a lot of people within industry, looking at there portfolios and work, it’s all mostly in Unreal engine. So due to the fact that I want to go into level design I knew that this module where we produce prototypes would be an ideal place to get my foot in the door with Unreal. I feel like working in Unity has definitely put me a step a head since the last time I used Unreal as a lot of the features/layouts are the same. Getting used to Unreal’s blueprint system will take some time though coming from a coding background the jump into Unreals scripting system wasn’t that big with a lot the functions being the same. Overall I am already starting to feel more comfortable with Unreal’s Engine and definitely feel like I will prefer using Unreal’s visual scripting over Unity’s C# coding. I will say though that it is clear that Unreal is an industry designed engine with its level of quality in its assets and its rending times (building all the lighting) though with this comes beautifully lite scenes. This is definitely an engine that I will be using in the future.
