For our four and final prototype we were given the game jam theme of ‘Celebration’. We talked about the meaning of celebration and mostly looked at achievements and what you’d celebrate and how this different for each individual. As we were approaching Christmas I knew that I wanted to make a Christmas game, I also knew that I wanted to have AI featured in this game as it was an element that I stated I wanted to explore in my last prototype. The reason I wanted to include AI in this prototype was because I wanted to further develop my level designing skills and by adding AI this would mean that I would have to think about not only how the AI would react to the environment but how the they’d drive the progression of the level e.g. Enemy AI in games help to drive the players progression through a level and also drive the pacing of the game. As my focus is on developing my level designing skills and creating good AI takes a long time, I went looking a good AI asset pack and across this(1).

After seeing the efficiency of the AI in this asset pack and the playing the demo, I knew instantly what type of game I wanted to create. I was going to create a third person shooter where the player was playing as Santa retaking the Norther Pole from some sort of enemies. After thinking about what the story of the game could be and how this would drive into the theme of celebration I decided that the story was going to be that Satan had come to the North Pole and had converted all the elves into demon like creators and that when the player killed/defeated one of these creators it would convert pack to a jolly elf how’d be doing something funny like dancing around and singing. I wanted to take this approach as I wanted to make the game as funny as possible keeping a light hearted atmosphere to the game.
